I originally read English at UCL, and then followed up my BA with a law conversion course and I trained as a barrister. After receiving my LLB and being called to the Bar, I fairly quickly became disillusioned with a career in law. In looking for something which would be the antidote to those things that had frustrated me, I eventually ended up at an Edtech startup.
It was dynamic, forward-thinking, and focused on creative problem-solving. It was a real ‘eureka’ experience. From there, my original plan was to continue working in tech startups, maybe as a founder, but I had never considered VC. It was a chance introduction to Symvan’s founders that led to what I only thought would be a 2-month internship for some work experience, and here I am a decade later.
I work across all aspects of Investment Management, from sourcing potential investee companies, filtering them, conducting due diligence, negotiating terms, preparing investment recommendations for the Investment Committee, and, most importantly, providing ongoing support to our portfolio companies.
Given my background, I am particularly interested in legal and education tech companies, but rather than focus on a particular sector, I tend to work best with very early-stage companies, where the challenges are more diverse and less industry-specific.
My role is centred on implementing and delivering on our investment thesis: finding and investing in the right companies, and then nurturing and supporting them through their growth to achieve the best outcomes for founders and investors.
We pride ourselves on going above and beyond for our investee companies and, in particular, bringing our experience and knowledge to help them navigate the tricky and demanding journey of a founder.
